Class Description

Actor training requires taking risks. It requires being wrong sometimes. It requires trying something, discovering that it doesn’t work, and getting up and trying again.

A good failure can teach an actor far more than a safe success.

Meisner training asks an actor to listen, respond and allow another human being to affect them.  It is a process. It builds step by step, and each piece of the work, each exercise becomes the foundation for the next – the successful understanding and application of each essential to the success of the next and so on.

The first layers of exercises (repetition, activities, the door) will focus on the importance of learning how to listen fully and to respond truthfully within an imaginary circumstance.

This stage lays the groundwork essential to a clear and full understanding of emotional preparation, relationships, and objectives.  The goal is to achieve a strong foundation by discarding protective walls and emerging a freer, more open and honest person with an acting instrument ready to build a character and craft a role.

The full 1st year program is divided into two 16-week semesters.  Voice work and Movement through the Williamson technique will be added to the course for actors wanting the core program.

Prerequisite: An audition and interview is required before acceptance into this class.
